Founded by Late Sanjeeva Shetty, who moved to Mumbai from Mangalore, Karnataka, with a vision of establishing a successful business, the company began as a travel service provider, arranging travel bookings from Mumbai to various parts of Southern India.
Over the years, Southern Travels grew into a substantial operation with a fleet of 80 buses, catering to the travel needs of countless individuals. In 1999, recognizing the growing demand for logistics services, the company expanded its offerings with the establishment of Southern Carriers, focusing on efficient transport solutions for goods. With rising competition, changing regulations, and growing infrastructure challenges in the bus travel industry, the founder foresaw the need for diversification. By the late 1990s, issues such as fluctuating fuel prices, road infrastructure limitations, and the rise of private car ownership impacted bus travel profitability. Recognizing the demand for efficient transportation of goods and leveraging the company’s established route network, the founder expanded into logistics. Southern Travel's transition into logistics allowed it to tap into new markets and cater to the growing needs of industries requiring reliable goods transportation.
